# Create profile-based loyalty programs

Reward customers with loyalty points linked to their customer profiles.

Before you create a loyalty program, [enable the loyalty feature](/docs/product/campaigns/settings/manage-campaign-features.md).

1. Click <Loyalty className="icon"/> **Loyalty** on the leftmost menu.
1. Click <Add className="icon"/> **Create Loyalty Program**, then click **Profile-Based**.
1. In **Name**, type the name you use to find the loyalty program.
1. In **API name**, type an identifier for your loyalty program. This name is used for integration purposes.

You cannot change this after you create the loyalty program.

1. (Optional) In **Description**, type a description for the program.
1. Enable **Subledgers** to [create
   subledgers](/docs/product/loyalty-programs/use-subledgers) in your loyalty program.

   :::note
   [Subledgers](/docs/product/loyalty-programs/use-subledgers.md) inherit all the tiers
   and their point thresholds from the main ledger.

   You cannot change this after you create the loyalty program.
   :::

1. In **Time zone**, select the reference time zone.

   The time zone setting is used for the following reasons:
   - Displaying analytics in the [loyalty dashboard](/docs/product/loyalty-programs/profile-based/profile-based-overview.md#the-loyalty-dashboard).
   - Start and expiration dates for rewards added manually or through the Rule Builder.
   - Sending [loyalty program notifications](/docs/product/loyalty-programs/loyalty-notifications/overview.md) requests.

1. In **Environment**, select the
   [environment for your loyalty program](/docs/product/loyalty-programs/overview.md#loyalty-program-environments).

1. (Optional) In **Connected Applications**, select which Applications you want to connect
     to the loyalty program.

1. Click **Create Program**.

You can find the created program on the [**Loyalty** page](/docs/product/loyalty-programs/profile-based/profile-based-overview.md#list-loyalty-programs),
and you can use it directly [in your campaigns](/docs/product/tutorials/loyalty.md).
