Creating templates

You can create new templates directly from your campaigns:

  1. Click Template to the right of the name of the campaign you want to create a template from.

  2. In Basic info, type:

    • The Name under which the template will appear in the Campaign Manager.
    • A Description to help you identify the template.
    • (Optional) Tags separated with commas.
  3. In Template usage guide, type an explanation for non-expert users to better understand how to use this template.

  4. From the Connected Application(s) dropdown, select the Applications where you want the template to be available.

    note
    • If the rules of the original campaign use custom attributes, you can only connect the template to Applications where the custom attributes are available.
    • If the original campaign has strikethrough rules, you can only connect the template to Applications that have cart item catalogs connected to them.
  5. From the Campaign access group dropdown, select a campaign access group you want the campaign to be available in.

  6. (Optional) Click Next.

  7. In Template Placeholders, click New Placeholder. You can use placeholders as you use an attribute inside your rules and conditions. Template users will only be able to modify the placeholder values. Choose:

    • A Name for the placeholder.
    • The Field type (number, string, percent or list of strings).
    • A Description to help identify and know how to use the placeholder.

After defining these parameters, click Save and close or Save and add another. The placeholder appears under Draft placeholders, where you can edit or delete it.

    caution

If you do not create any placeholders, the entire ruleset will be locked and cannot be modified when creating campaigns from this template.

If the rules of the campaign you are creating a template from reference a campaign collection, a collection placeholder is automatically added. This placeholder cannot be deleted. When creating a campaign from this template, upload a CSV file with a list of items into the collection that is automatically created from the placeholder.

  8. (Optional) If you have created one or more placeholders, use them in Replace value with placeholder in your rules to replace the corresponding values in the template rules. They appear as the only available attributes in the Attribute Selector.

  9. (Optional) To preview the campaign properties created by the placeholders, click Preview Template.

If you preview your template before creating any placeholders, you see an example of a template with common placeholders.

  10. (Optional) Click Next.

  11. In Budgets and Attributes, define budgets for the campaigns created from your template and define default values of any mandatory campaign attributes.

  12. (Optional) If the Coupons feature is enabled in the campaign, click Next.

  13. In Coupon Codes, define the characteristics of the coupon codes automatically generated by any Create coupon code effect in the rules of the campaigns created from the template. These settings can be overridden when creating the effects.

  14. (Optional) If you have made any changes in the Coupon Codes section, click Save.

  15. Click Activate template.

The template automatically appears as enabled on the Templates page.

note

To save your changes and continue creating the template later, from the top-right corner of the page, click Save as draft. Drafts are available on the Templates page.
